A duality between life vs. death, the animal impulse vs. the cerebral nod and the difference of one’s state of being in sickness vs. health runs through Grishkoff’s works as a tug-of-war of the senses.
Grishkoff’s work offers viewers the gift of seeing and feeling how ART can heal. In addition to stand-alone objects, this collection of work is worn and used in performances celebrating life, movement and the joy of being on the planet.
The predominate use of white natural felt mixed with his own hair symbolizes Hairy Cell Leukemia and the act of healing without living in fear. A 21 year survivor of cancer, and now cancer-free thanks to an innovative new treatment, Grishkoff is a beacon for others, communicating the power of creativity amidst difficult odds and utterly human roll the arts can play in personal and collective healing.
A Brush with Light and Sound, two person show with Brian Ransom, University of Central Florida Art Gallery, November 5- December 20, 2015, in conjunction with A Healing Brush with Sound, two stand alone public performances, November 5 & 6
These works speak to my history as a collector, the hunt for materials and my fascination with the brush. Here one can see my appreciation for the imperfections in nature and my love of mark-making. Detail and attention to craft are part of my training and are used to tie form and content together.
